Genealogy/Family Search Tips
- Include census years with your search. For a list of census', search census year location; e.g. "census 1891 NY"
- Include "birth/death/marriage/divorce certificate"
- If you have an address of a family member, try searching just for this.
- Include the location where your history lies
- Put quotation marks around multiple names to avoid partial name results i.e. "Ann Marie Double Surname"
- To avoid tense/synonym changes in results precede names with "+" i.e. Richard +Lovely
- Try including schools or companies
- Try starting from yourself and working backwards, many sites allow you to build and save your family tree. Search "build family tree"
- Include their job title, as this is often listed on records
